MINDEN -- Heading into the District Tournament this coming weekend, the Ville Platte Dixie Youth Pitching Machine All-Stars knew they needed some more experience under their belts.
And that is just what they got this past weekend, as the All-Stars participated in a Dixie Open Tournament and came away with an overall record of 4-1.
Ville Platte started the tournament on Saturday with a 12-7 win over Union Parish. In that game, the All-Stars led the entire way, owning a 3-1 lead after one inning of play and a 10-5 lead after two innings.
The All-Stars followed that up with a 20-1 trouncing of H&H. Ville Platte exploded for seven runs in each of the first two innings and added six more runs in the third and final inning.
On Sunday, the All-Stars returned to action against H&H once again and once again they blew away their opponent by a 16-0 score. Crooked numbers abounded for Ville Platte, as they put up five runs in the first inning, six runs in the second inning and closed out the game with another five runs in the third inning.
Game two on Sunday saw the Ville Platte bats stay hot, as they ran away from North Webster, 14-4. The All-Stars opened up with seven runs in the first to take a seven to two lead and then proceeded to outscore North Webster seven to two over the final three innings of play.
The only hiccup in the tournament came in the final game on Sunday. Ville Platte held a 9-7 lead heading into the fourth inning, but could not hold on as Bossier blasted away for seven runs in their final two at bats to take a 14-10 win over the All-Stars.
