Pine Prairie splits with Church Point; Basile falls on road

In action around the parish Tuesday night, the Pine Prairie basketball teams came away with a split at home in district contests with the Church Point Bears and the Lady Bears, while the Basile Lady Bearcats were unable to secure a win on the road against East Beauregard.
Game one in Pine Prairie saw the Lady Panthers stop a two game skid in district play, as they downed Church Point 49-30 behind Asia George’s 13 points.
With the win, Pine Prairie improves to 20-9 on the year and 3-4 in District 5-3A.
The nightcap of that district doubleheader had Pine Prairie losing a two point first quarter lead in a 63-47 loss to the Bears.
The loss drops the Panthers to 1-24 on the season and 0-5 in league play.
The Panthers and Lady Panthers will travel to Northwest tomorrow for another district doubleheader.
Finally, despite Frida Alvarez’s 29 points, the Lady Bearcats were unable to find their way on top of East Beauregard, falling in a close one, 50-45, to the Lady Trojans.
Basile falls to 8-17 on the year and 0-9 in District 4-1A competition. The Lady Bearcats will host Merryville tomorrow in a league game.
Here is a rundown of those three games played.
Church Point (G)
vs. Pine Prairie
The Lady Panthers found their stride early on in this contest, jumping out to a 15-10 lead after one quarter of play.
Pine Prairie ramped up the defensive intensity in the second quarter and got eight points from Aliyah Soileau to outscore Church Point 13-6 to take a 28-16 lead into the locker room.
The Lady Panthers basically put the game away in the third period, pouncing on the Lady Bears in an 18-3 quarter. With the lead in hand, Pine Prairie turned to their bench to close out the game.
Brashaylan Doucet added 12 points for Pine Prairie.

Basile (G) vs.
East Beauregard
Although Basile fell behind 16-10 after one quarter of play, the Lady Bearcats were able to outpace the Lady Trojans 11-8 in the second quarter.
Alvarez tried to keep Basile in the game, hitting five three-point shots in the final two quarters, but it was not enough to overtake East Beauregard.

Church Point (B)
vs. Pine Prairie
Chase Freeman had 24 points for the Panthers, but could not hold their two-point first quarter lead and allowed the Bears to score 53 points in the final three quarters of play to take the 16 point win.
Branson Fontenot added nine in the loss.
