PINE PRAIRIE -- The Pine Prairie Lady Panthers did not hold anything back offensively Thursday afternoon, as they rolled past the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans 13-1 in an inter-parish contest between the two schools.
In the game, the Lady Panthers pounded out 11 hits, including three home runs and three doubles. Pine Prairie is 1-0 on the young season, while Sacred Heart fell to 0-2.
The game started slowly for both teams. Starting Lady Panther pitcher, Brianna Wall, got the first two Lady Trojan batters out to start the contest.
Tobi Landy singled to right field, but could not advance any farther as Wall shut down the next Sacred Heart batter to end the top of the first inning.
Things did not go any better for Pine Prairie in the bottom half of the inning. Lady Trojan starting pitcher Jodi Vidrine induced two innocent ground balls and struck out the second Lady Panther batter of the at bat to send Pine Prairie down in order.
After striking out the first two batters faced in the top of the second inning, Wall finished off Sacred Heart’s second at bat with an easy infield fly ball.
The Lady Panther bats got on track in the bottom of the second inning. Wall led off with a single into left-center field. Allie Fontenot plated Wall with a double to left field.
The next two batters struck out leaving Fontenot at second base. An error on the Lady Trojan defense one batter later plated Fontenot to give Pine Prairie the 2-0 lead. The final out of the at bat came on a line-out to the short stop.
Sacred Heart’ lone run came in the top of the third inning. With one away, Maci Vidrine singled to right-center field and later scored on an error with Landry at the plate.
With the score not 2-1, the Lady Panthers heated up the bats to pick up three more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Asia George slammed one off of the sign in left-center field for a solo home run.
Two batters and two outs later, Wall would single for the second time in the game. This time she crossed the plate when Allie Fontenot blasted a 2-1 pitch over the left-center field fence for a two run home run.
Now that Wall had a four run cushion, the junior hurler settled in and began to shut down the Lady Trojan offense. In the top of the fourth, Sacred Heart managed to get runners in scoring position, but could not generate the timely hit to get those runners across the plate.
The bottom of the fourth found Pine Prairie at it again at the plate. With two outs, Kailey Soileau took a 1-2 pitch and drove into deep center field, scoring two more runs and extending the Lady Panther lead to 7-1.
Wall went back to work in the top of the fifth inning, getting three of the four Sacred Heart batters. The only blip, a single off of the bat of Camille Soileau.
Pine Prairie continued with the hot bats in the bottom of the fifth, plating six more runs to end the game in run-rule fashion. The big hit of the inning, a walk off three-run blast from George.
