After picking up their first win of the season on Monday, the Pine Prairie Lady Panther softball team hit the diamond for four more games over the next four days and finished the rest of the week with a 2-2 record.
On Tuesday, the Lady Panthers traveled to Church Point for a date with district opponent Church Point. It was all Pine Prairie in that contest, as the Lady Panthers blew by the Lady Bears 17-3 to collect their second district win of the season.
Pine Prairie got off to a slow start against Church Point, only scoring four runs in the first four innings of play to take a 4-1 lead. However, the Lady Panthers opened up the floodgates on offense in the top of the fifth, collecting five big runs.
The Lady Bears added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth after holding Pine Prairie scoreless to cut the lead down to 9-3. The Lady Panthers sealed the game in the seventh with eight runs.
Kailey Soileau led the way at the plate, going 4 for 5 with two doubles.
On Wednesday, Pine Prairie hosted their inter-parish rival Sacred Heart in a key non-district game. Unfortunately, the Lady Panthers could not fend off a late rally from the Lady Trojans as they fell 5-1.
Sacred Heart got on the board first with a single run in the top of the second inning when Lauren Shipp reached base on a fielder’s choice and later scored on a bases loaded walk. Pine Prairie tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth on an Abbie Fontenot solo home run.
Four base hits, including a double by Olivia Hernandez, plated five runs for the Lady Trojans in the top of the fifth inning. From there, Sacred Heart hurler Aubrey Foret shut down the Lady Panthers to close out the win for the Lady Trojans.
On Friday, Pine Prairie traveled to Lafayette to participate in the St. Thomas More tournament. The Lady Panthers finished the day by splitting games with New Iberia and Catholic of Pointe Coupee.
During the contest against New Iberia, Pine Prairie turned up the offense, as they battled out a 13-12 win over the Lady Yellow Jackets. In the game, the Lady Panthers pounded out 21 hits, including a walk-off single from Brianna Wall that plated the winning run.
Pine Prairie jumped out to an 11-1 lead over New Iberia after three innings of play. Nevertheless, the Lady Yellow Jackets found some offense of their own, out scoring the Lady Panthers 11-0 over the next two innings.
Pine Prairie tied the game in the sixth with a solo run and then added the final run in the bottom of the seventh.
Maycie Hardy went four for five at the plate to lead the way for the Lady Panthers. Asia George went three for four in the win.
In the second game Friday, Pine Prairie rallied from four runs down to tie the score, only to surrender 10 runs over the last two innings in a 15-10 loss to the Catholic of Pointe Coupee Lady Hornets.
Catholic opened the game by scoring five runs in the first two innings, taking a four run advantage over the Lady Panthers. Pine Prairie picked up four runs in their next two at bats to tie the game at 5-5.
A 9-1 edge in the fifth inning for Catholic put the Lady Hornets up by eight. Pine Prairie mounted a small comeback in the sixth inning, scoring four runs, but that was countered with a solo run from Catholic in the bottom half of that same inning.
The Lady Hornets held the Lady Panthers scoreless in the top of the seventh to finish out the win.
George led the way for Pine Prairie, going 3 for 4. Hardy and Jacie McFarlain each collected two hits in the game.
