IOTA -- The Pine Prairie Lady Panthers battled back all the way from a 3 to 1 deficit, to tie the game up in the top of the last inning, just to see it all slip away in a 4-3 walk off loss to the Iota Lady Bulldogs Thursday afternoon.
With the loss, Pine Prairie drops to 6-5 on the season and 2-1 in District 5-3A play. The Lady Panthers were scheduled to play in the Tioga tournament this weekend.
Pine Prairie was the first to light up the score board, picking up a single run in the top of the second inning. Kailey Soileau walked to lead off for the Lady Panthers.
Soileau reached second on a stolen base and made it to third on a fielder’s choice. Asia George drove Soileau in, belting a double down the left field line.
Iota tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning, scoring on a double and a single with two outs. The Lady Bulldogs collected two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, again with two outs. Three walks, an error and a single were enough for Iota to take a 3-1 lead.
Pine Prairie cut that advantage down to 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning when, with two outs, Maycie Hardy blasted a 0-1 pitch over the center field fence. In that at bat, Jacie McFarlain was thrown out at the plate right before Hardy’s solo home run.
In the top of the sixth, the Lady Panthers threatened to tie the game up when Brianna Wall scorched a one out double to right-center field. However, Wall was doubled up on a ground ball off of the bat of Allie Fontenot.
Iota stretched their lead to two runs, 4-2, in the bottom of the sixth. A walk, a stolen base and a single scored the number nine hitter for the Lady Bulldogs.
With their back to the wall, Pine Prairie tied the game up in their final at bat, plating two runs. With one out, Kaitlyn Fontenot reached on an error and moved to third on two passed balls.
Kaitlyn Robinson doubled home Fontenot, but was thrown out at third trying to stretch it to a triple. McFarlain followed with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Nevertheless, the Lady Bulldogs were able to stop the bleeding.
Iota came to bat in the bottom of the seventh needing just one run. The Lady Bulldogs got that on two errors and a single, giving them the win.
