Pine Prairie jumps out on top of Eunice; unable to sustain momentum in loss

The Eunice High Bobcats overcame a sluggish start before righting the ship in the second quarter on their way to a 35-6 victory over the Pine Prairie Panthers in District 5-3A football action Friday evening at Bobcat Stadium.
A couple of miscues by the Bobcats allowed the Panthers to gain some momentun in the first quarter on their way to a 6-0 lead in the opening quarter.
Panthers’ running back Jerodd Sims dominated the early action for the Panthers, leading his team to a touchdown with seven minutes remaining in the opening quarter.
Sims carried five times on the Panther drive and scored on a five-yard run.
The Panthers missed the PAT thanks to a poor snap.
The Bobcats overcame a holding penalty after receiving the Panther kickoff, but settled down to march 43 yards in nine plays to answer the Panther touchdown.
Deon Ardoin led the Bobcats on the drive with seven carries for 41 yards before scoing a touchdown from the one-yard line.
Austin Phillips kicked the PAT to give the Bobcats a 7-6 lead with 3:42 lefrt in the opening quarter.
The Panthers tried to answer after receiving the ensuing kickoff, but they were unable to take advantage of a six-yard run by Sims on first down and eventually were forced to punt.
The Bobcats took advantage of the short punt to begin another drive thanks to opening runs of 9 and 20 yards by Avery Lee and Ardoin. Bryson Poullard, a sophomore, ran twice for nine yards to set up another Bobcat touchdown. Quarterback Zach Suire, who filled in for the injured Simeon Ardoin, tossed an eight yard touchdown pass to Jeoul Hill and Phillips was successful on the PAT kick to give the Bobcats a 14-6 lead with 9:48 showing on the clock.
The Panthers were unable to respond on their next possession and were forced to punt. The short punt gave the Bobcats great possession at their own 36. That set up another touchdown drive, which started on a 20-yard run by Jordan Ledet. Hill added carries of seven yards and 25 yards, while Lee added two runs totaling 17 yards. Lee eventually scored on a one-yard run and Phillips was good on another PAT to give the Bobcats a 21-6 lead with 5:32 lead in the second quarter.
The Panthers continued to struggle on offense, losing a fumble which was recovered by Jerry Douglas. Traelyn Cooper caught a 10-yard pass from Suire and later found Lee on another pass. A Suire pass to Ledet covered 45 yards for a touchdown, giving the Bobcats a 28-6 lead with seven seconds remaining in the half.
The Panthers continued to struggle at the start of the third quarter with a fumble that was recovered by Carlin Vigers. Suire took to the air at that point, finding Cooper for one completion and completing an 11-yard and 10-yard passes to Ledet. The Bobcats continued to dominate the action as the third quarter came to an end, with Devin Richardson scoring on a two-yard run to give the Bobcats a 35-6 lead.
The Panthers were unable to battle back against the Bobcat defense. They were forced to punt twice in the final quarter.
