Pine Prairie holds awards ceremony; recognizes athletes

Pine Prairie High School recently held their athletic awards program for all sports in the 2018-19 season.
The Panthers and Lady Panthers enjoyed a pretty successful year in the world of athletics. Starting with football, Pine Prairie tied the school record for wins in 2018.
The boy’s basketball team reeled off an impressive 17 wins during the regular season. The Panthers got the opportunity to host a first round playoff game in Class 3A, defeating Brusly before bowing out in the regional contest.
The girl’s basketball team also had a tremendous season, picking up 20 wins on the year. The Lady Panthers hosted a first round, the first time in a number of years after earning the No. 15 seed in Class 3A.
The Pine Prairie baseball team earned a spot in the post-season after posting an overall record of 15-15.
The Lady Panther softball team held true to form, making the playoffs once again. Pine Prairie marked a 19-11 regular season record and reached the second round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Both the boy’s and girl’s track and field teams had a number of athletes score points in the parish, district and regional meets.
The Panther and Lady Panther cross country teams sent participants to the State Meet, with the Lady Panthers placing 17th as a team.

Boy’s Basketball- Offensive Player of the Year, Isaiah Payne; Defensive Player of the Year, Kyler Carson; Charge Award, Jordan Ardoin; Coach’s Award, Damon Malveaux; Most Improved, Trevor Causey; Panther Pride Award, JJ Sims.
Girl’s Basketball- Senior Award, Kailey Doucet; Lady Panther Student Athlete Award, Maycie Hardy; Outstanding Rebounder, Brianna Wall; Most Improved, Maycie Hardy and Abigail Arnaud; Newcomer of the Year, Brashaylan Doucet; Ms. Hustle, Asia George; Outstanding Offensive Award, Kameron Allen; Outstanding Defensive Award, Kailey Doucet; Coach’s Award, Asia George.
Baseball- Most Valuable Player, Jordan Ardoin; Coach’s Award, Kaleb Matte, AJ Sharp and John Fontenot; Newcomer of the Year, Cole Willis.
