KAPLAN -- For the first time in the last four years, the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers will not appear in the quarterfinal round of the state softball playoffs after their 8-2 defeat at the hands of the Kaplan Lady Pirates Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss Pine Prairie finishes the season with an overall record of 20-12. The Lady Panthers were the District 5-3A Co-Champions in 2019.
Pine Prairie looked strong early on in the game, scoring two runs in the top of the first. However, the Lady Panthers could not find ways to put more runs across throughout the rest of the game, despite having runners reach scoring position in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Kaplan jumped ahead for good in the bottom of the third, plating three runs. The Lady Pirates added another run in the fifth and finished out the scoring with four more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Jacie McFarlain led the way for the Lady Panthers going 3 for 4 at the plate.
