Pine Prairie earns sixth in a row; takes down Sacred Heart

PINE PRAIRIE -- The Pine Prairie Lady Panthers won their sixth game in a row here Monday night, overpowering the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans, 49-29.
With the win Pine Prairie moved to 7-5 on the season and were schedule to play in the Basile Tournament starting yesterday.
With the loss Sacred Heart fell to 3-7 on the year. The Lady Trojans were scheduled to play Gueydan yesterday on the road.
The Lady Panthers let it all out at the start of the game, scoring six unanswered points in the first two minutes of the game. Sacred Heart’s Amanda Bergeron answered back for the Lady Trojans with three points of her own on the next two possessions to lessen the gap.
Unfortunately for Sacred Heart, Pine Prairie would shut them out for the rest of the period, scoring four points before the buzzer, bringing the score to 10-3.
Pine Prairie kept its hot streak alive going into the next period, collecting eight unanswered points, six of which came from Allen. The Lady Trojans eventually answered back and in a strong way, picking up eight points of their own, to cut the Pine Prairie lead to 20-11 game.
However, the Lady Panthers kept the pressure on despite that run by the Lady Trojans, pounding out five points in a row. Sacred Heart closed out the half with a pair of successful free throws by Blair Lafleur, putting the score at 25-13 as both teams headed into their locker rooms.
The Lady Panthers continued to put their foot on the gas at the start of the third period, scoring six unanswered points to increase their lead to 18. The two teams went back-and-forth after the initial flurry from Pine Prairie, increasing their lead to 35-16 with 1:40 left in the period. The Lady Trojans once again closed out the period with a bucket from Lauren Shipp, which closed the gap to 35-18.
Sacred Heart was in desperation mode at the beginning of the fourth period. They needed total dominance to put themselves back in the game.
Try as they might, the Lady Trojans still could not cut into the red hot Lady Panther advantage. Both teams traded scores the entire period, as the Lady Trojans desperately battled to close the point gap. The Lady Panthers, who seemed to always stay one step ahead.
After all the dust had settled, Pine Prairie still found themselves up 43-29 with 2:53 left in the final quarter. The Lady Panthers dominated the ball from this point on, scoring six unanswered points, with half of those points coming from free throws by Allen.
The Lady Trojans fought for the ball mercilessly, but Pine Prairie proved too much for them, closing out the game in dominating fashion.
Pine Prairie’s Kameron Allen lit up the score board with 16 points and went nine for 10 at the free throw line.
Sacred Heart’s Lauren Shipp also had a big night, putting up 11 points for the Lady Trojans.
