PINE PRAIRIE – Another game, another loss for the Pine Prairie Panthers.
This time it was the Iota Bulldogs that were able to take down the Panthers in 49-14 District 5-3A victory.
With the loss, Pine Prairie falls to 0-8 on the year and 0-3 in league play. The Panthers will travel to Ville Platte this Friday for a game against the Bulldogs.
The Iota defense once again was the force that ensured that any mistakes the Bulldog offense made resulted in minimal damage. They held the Pine Prairie offense to a mere 46 yards of offense. Their only two scores were from an Elijah George kickoff return and a two-yard Francis Fontenot run that was made possible by a Bulldog fumble inside their own 10-yard line.
After the Panthers won the coin toss and elected to defer, Iota made quick work on their opening drive, easily moving the ball down the field punctuated by a 7-yard run by Landon Doucet.
Following another three and out by Pine Prairie, the Bulldogs took their ensuing drive down the field thanks in part to a Gavin to Zan Conner pass completion and a long run by Luke Doucet. Owen Harmon took the ball on an and around for an eight yard score and the Bulldog lead was stretched to 14-0.
The next time Iota had the ball, the Bulldog center, in what has seemingly become a problem the past couple of weeks, snapped the ball high over Vidrine’s head which he smartly covered up. The miscue forced an Iota punt, but any joy Pine Prairie experienced from the defensive stop quickly came to an end as the Panthers fumbled on their first play of the series.
This time the Bulldogs wasted no time with Vidrine throwing a touchdown pass to Landon Doucet, stretching the lead to 21-0.
And it was about to get worse for the Panthers. On their first play of their drive, Fontenot threw his interception to Decuir who took it straight to the endzone.
The Bulldogs took the 28-0 lead into the half and for all practical purposes the game was over. Pine Prairie did have some nice plays but the Dogs just snuffed them all out.
After a Pine Prairie punt pinned the Bulldogs inside their ten yard line, the Panthers received their biggest break of the game when an Iota fumble gave them the ball inside the Iota 10 leading to their only offensive touchdown and the score by Braeme. The extra point made the score 28-7, where it remained until halftime.
The third quarter saw only one touchdown, that coming from the Iota Bulldogs. Following a Pine Prairie punt, Charlot took a second down run up the right side of the field for a 46-yard score. Luis Doreteo’s extra point was good and the Bulldogs lead was stretched to 35-7.
With the Bulldogs beginning to play their second and third team players, on the next Bulldog drive Vidrine threw a 55-yard pass to Tyrone Charlot to stretch the lead to 42-7.
After yet another Pine Prairie three and out, Iota took over and on the first play of the drive handed to ball to Tyler Charlot who took it to the house for a 32-yard touchdown, stretching the lead to 49-7.
An Elijah George kickoff return for a touchdown on the following play did little to damage the Bulldogs’ spirits as they once again ended the game with a large victory margin.
