Panthers look to break losing streak; take on Montgomery

The rough start continues for the Pine Prairie Panthers.
This past Friday night, Pine Prairie lost their third game in a row when they fell 41-0 to the Beau Chene Gators. That means the Panthers have not only won a game this season, they still have not scored in those three loses.
Despite those statistics, Pine Prairie head coach Yves Prince remains optimistic about his team.
“We have not stopped competing all season long, stated Prince. “The players still show that fire every day at practice. Right now we are just trying to find our way offensively. It is tough when you have the number of staters we have that are freshmen and sophomores. But, I know that if we continue to play hard, good things will happen for us.”
Pine Prairie will need to find that offense this coming week when they take on the Montgomery Tigers at home. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Montgomery comes into the game with an overall record of 2-1. The Tigers have averaged 46.7 points per game over their last three contests. However, Montgomery has surrendered a ton of points; 88 to be exact.
“Montgomery is a highly skilled team that can hang some points up on the board,” said Prince. “They have a ton of talented skill position players. We are going to have to really play well on the defensive side of the ball. Assignment football will be the key, especially with the offense that they run. As the old saying goes, we are going to need to “mow our own grass.”
Pine Prairie has been pretty balanced on the offensive side of the ball so far in 2019. In the last two games the Panthers have played in they rushed for a combined 140 yards and passed for a combined 159 yards.
With those stats, Prince believes that his offense is on the way up.
“We haven’t played that bad on offense this season,” commented Prince. “I thought we have thrown the ball pretty well. We just have to stay motivated and stay focused. The players know what they are up against this season, but they are hanging in there.”
