The Pine Prairie Panthers will face some tough sledding tomorrow night when they travel to Port Barre to take on the 2-2 Red Devils. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Pine Prairie comes into the game with an overall record of 0-4. However, the Panthers were able to pick up some motivation when they scored their first points of the year in a 36-7 loss to the Montgomery Tigers.
“I thought we played hard this past Friday night against Montgomery,” stated Pine Prairie head coach Yves Prince. “Our players never quit the entire game. The score was not indicative of the way we played. I thought our defense did a great job of holding them most of the game. We just have so many players having to go both ways and it eventually took a toll on us.”
Port Barre has wins over Tara and Beau Chene in the first two games of the year. The Red Devils fell to Opelousas Catholic in week three and last Friday lost to Mamou after taking a 21-0 lead heading into halftime.
Against Mamou, the Red Devils picked up 311 yards of offense, with 254 of those yards coming on the ground. Prince knows that his defense will have to come to play if the Panthers want their first win of the year.
“Our guys up front on defense are a big key for us tomorrow night,” said Prince. We need for them to have a tremendous game.”
