Panther baseball, softball get wins

Both the Pine Prairie baseball and softball had a successful weekend, with each program coming away with wins.
The Panther baseball team split a doubleheader this past Friday, taking a 3-2 win over Iowa and falling 11-4 to Vinton.
With the split Pine Prairie owns an overall record of 1-6. The Panthers were scheduled to play Buckeye Mardi Gras day at home.
Meanwhile on the softball diamond, the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers came away with three big wins in the Kinder tournament. On Friday the Lady Panthers blanked Dequincy 19-0. On Saturday, Pine Prairie continued the momentum with wins over Rosepine (13-8) and Jennings (19-1).
The Lady Panthers are now 6-4 on the season. Pine Prairie is scheduled to play Iota today on the road.
Here is a recap of all of the games played.

Pine Prairie (B)
vs. Iowa
Jordan Ardoin pitched a five hit complete game to help Pine Prairie squeeze past Iowa.
Ardoin threw seven innings, only allowing two runs while striking out four and walking one.
All three of the Panther runs came in the top of the third inning. Trailing by one, Cole Willis reached first on a third strike passed ball. Willis would score on a single by JJ Sims.
Sims stole second and came home on a double by Ardoin, who in turn reached the plate on a double by Joel Franks.
Iowa scored again in the bottom of the fifth, but could not get any other runners past second base.
Sims led all Pine Prairie hitters, going 2 for 4.

Pine Praire (B)
vs. Vinton
In the second game of Friday’s double header, the Vinton Lions scored five runs in the first and three runs in the third and sixth innings to take down Pine Prairie.
The Panthers runs came in the first and the second innings, scoring two in each of those frames.

Pine Prairie (S)
vs. Dequincy
The Lady Panthers blasted away for 12 hits in their convincing four inning shut out run rule win over Dequincy.
Pine Prairie picked up three runs in the first, one run in the second, two runs in the third and a whopping 13 runs in the fourth to cruise to the victory.
Jacie McFarlain and Asia George were each 2 for 3 with a home run to lead the Lady Panthers.

Pine Prairie (S)
vs. Rospine
The Lady Panthers scored 11 runs in their last two at bats to pull off the win over Rosepine.
Pine Prairie trailed 3-2 after two innings of play and 8-2 after five innings of play.

vs. Jennings
Tied 1-1 after the first two innings, the Lady Panthers plated 18 runs in the final two innings to run past Class 3A Jennings. Pine Prairie collected 13 hits in the game.
