Mamou rolls past Northwest for ninth district win

MAMOU -- The Mamou Demons improved to 13-15 overall and 8-6 in district play with a 19-9 win over the Northwest Raiders Wednesday afternoon.
Mamou flew out of the gate, taking a 4-0 lead after one inning of play. In that at bat, the first four batters for the Demons all drew walks. Tanner Atchinson followed with a single plating two runs.
Devon Boone walked to load the bases once more. A fielder’s choice and an error forced the final two runs of the half inning to the plate.
After holding Northwest scoreless in the top of the second, the Demons exploited the Raider pitching staff by plating seven runs in the bottom part of the inning.
Andre Tate and Deshotels both reached first on walks to lead things off for Mamou. A base hit by William Thomas scored Tate and moved Deshotels to third.
A passed ball allowed Deshotels to cross home plate and pushed Thomas to second base. Daylon Ardoin drew a walk to put runners at first and third.
Kayden Serie followed with a huge three-run blast over the left field fence, making it an 8-0 game. The Demons pushed three more runs across to open up a huge 11-0 lead.
Northwest managed to cut into the Mamou lead in the top of the third by picking up four runs of their own.
The Demons countered in the bottom of the third with the addition of two more runs. Thomas walked and moved to second on an Ardoin single.
A walk drawn by Serie put the bases full. Two wild pitches later, both Thomas and Ardoin had stepped on home plate.
The Raiders sliced back into the Demon lead, scoring two runs in the top of the fourth to make it a 13-6 game.
In the bottom of the fourth, Mamou secured another run when Tate walked and later scored on a Thomas single.
Northwest made it a 14-9 game in the top of the fifth after they were able to plate another three runs.
However, the Demons were not about to let the Raiders come any closer, finishing off Northwest with five runs in the bottom half of the inning and securing the run-rule win.
Ardoin went 2 for 2 at the plate with a home run and two RBI. Thomas was also 2 for 2 with two singles and two RBI.
