CHURCH POINT -- The Mamou Demons have gotten hot at the right time of the year, as they picked up their fourth win in a row with a 59-56 victory over the Church Point Bears Monday night.
With the win, Mamou improves to 13-19 on the season and 6-7 in District 5-3A. The Demons were scheduled to host the Northwest Raiders Wednesday night in the last game of the regular season. The Gazette will have full coverage of that game in Sunday’s edition.
Mamou wasted no time getting off to a good start, outscoring Church Point 28-13 in the first quarter of play. In that period, Mason Tinley went five of six from the free throw line and knocked down 12 total points to get the Demons on the right track.
Leandre Harrison scored seven points in the second quarter, matching his first quarter output, to help the Demons take a 44-29 lead heading into the locker room.
Mamou’s offensive production fell dramatically in the second half, as the Demons only managed seven points in the third quarter and eight points in the final period. But, Mamou’s defense made enough stops down the stretch to hold on for the big win.
