Mamou looks to take improvement from last week and bring to the field tomorrow

“We are improving.”
That was the key phrase uttered out of the mouth of Mamou head coach Dwight Collins after his team put a scare in their 33-13 loss to No. 16 Crowley this past Friday.
Mamou (0-7, 0-4) scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to trail the Gents 19-13 as the two teams headed into locker room. Unfortunately, the Demons could not sustain the momentum from the first half.
“We finally made some key catches and some key runs,” stated Collins. “Once we got into it offensively, the defense began to feed off of that. We had a touchdown that was called back and another pass dropped that would have been a touchdown. We just have to continue to build on this game and put things all together.”
Mamou will definitely need that to happen tomorrow night, as they travel to Eunice to take on the No. 2 ranked Bobcats. Eunice sits at 6-1 on the year and 3-1 in district play. Their only loss of the season came at the hands of Church Point.
The Bobcats average an explosive 34.7 points per game on offense and have scored 30 or more points in every game this year except for one.
“They don’t do anything different than what they have done for the past 15-20 years, they just do it really well this season,” said Collins. “They like to run a lot of misdirection out of the Wing-T. But, they also pass the ball more than they have in the past. Their passing game is more of screens and hitches. We are just going to have to stay home, play assignment football and hope not to get fooled.”
Defensively, Eunice gives up 14 points per game this year, something Collins hopes to take advantage of.
“Offensively, we cannot panic and we have to remain patient,” said Collins. “We need to control the ball and keep it away from their offense.”
