MAMOU -- The Mamou Demons will jump from the frying pan into the fire tomorrow night at home when they battle a talented St. Edmund Blue Jay team that is hungry to rebound from an embarrassing 10-3 loss to the Sacred Heart Trojans last week. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Last Friday, the Demons did not perform the way that they had hoped to against Basile, taking a 36-0 blanking at the hands of the Bearcats. Mamou now stands at 0-2 on the year.
Against Basile, the Demons were unable to muster up much in the way of offense, collecting only 155 yards the entire night. One bright spot for Mamou was the passing of freshman Jaylen Bradley and the receiving of Dino Deshotel. Bradley finished five of 13 for 90 yards, while Deshotel caught four passes for 73 yards.
Defensively, the Demons had a tough time against the Bearcats, allowing 369 total yards, with 301 of those yards coming on the ground.
Mamou will now have to contend with a St. Ed’s team that is 1-1 on the season and ready to prove that they are better than the performance put out against Sacred Heart. In their first game of the year, the Blue Jays dominated Hanson in a 45-12 win.
In that game, St. Ed’s racked up over 350 yards of offense and held Hanson to under 250 yards. The Blue Jays, however did not do much on the ground or through the air this past Friday night, garnering only 137 yards of total offense.
If Mamou hopes to pick up their first win of the season they will have to pick up the pace on both sides of the ball.
