Local teams compete at state cross country meet

The annual Louisiana state cross country meet was held at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches this past week. Athaletes from all districts gathered to put their skills to the test against the state’s best.
In the men’s three mile 1-A division, Sacred Heart finished 14th out of the 15 teams that placed with a score of 371. The Trojans fell just under Opelousas Catholic, who scored 352 but finished just ahead of St. Edmund’s, who scored 389. Their fastest runner was Tristan Soileau, who finished with a time of 23:23.16.
In the women’s three mile 1-A division, Sacred Heart finished 10th out of 12, scoring 288. The Lady Trojan’s score put them right behind Houma Christian, who scored 197 and one spot ahead of Vermilion Catholic, who scored 310. Their fastest was Maci Vidrine with a time of 29:39.8.
In the men’s three mile 2-A division, Ville Platte earned the number 19 spot out of 23 teams, scoring 503. The Bulldogs placed ahead of Ascension Episcopal who scored 562 and barely placed under Rapides who scored 500. The fastest of their team was Alexander Soileau, who had a time of 20:09.8.
In the women’s 3 mile 2-A division, Ville Platte placed 11th out of 14 by scoring 308. The Lady Bulldogs finished over New Iberia Catholic who scored 314 but finished under Northlake Christian who scored 283. Vandryua Wilson had the fastest time of 27:16.3 for the Lady Bulldogs.
In the men’s three mile 3-A division, Pine Prairie impressively finished 11th out of 25 schools that placed,scoring 289. The Panthers were barely beat out of the top ten by De La Salle, who scored 276 but still placed over Sumner, Jule, who scored 307. Mamou placed last out of the 25 teams with a score of 688,falling under Bogalusa who scored 620. Jason Marsh had the top time for Pine Prairie with a finish of 20:33.2. Mamou’s fastest runner was Hayden Bergeron, who had a time of 27:39.8.
Finally, in the women’s three mile 3-A division Pine Prairie finished 17 out of the 19 high school teams that placed with a score of 433. The Lady Panthers pulled ahead of Jena who scored 524 but fell just shy of Haynes County who scored 421. Mamou did not place. Pine Prairie’s top time belonged to Emily Vidrine, who finished with a time of 29:46.5. Mamou’s top runner was Hailee Betrand, who ran three miles in 32:54.9.
