Lady Trojans secure big district win over Slaughter Charter

VILLE PLATTE -- The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans secured one of their biggest wins to date, as they rolled past Slaughter Community Charter 12-1 in a district contest Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, Sacred Heart moves to 8-5 on the season and 2-1 in district play. The Lady Trojans return to the diamond today when they travel to district foe Opelousas Catholic.
It was a banner day for the Sacred Heart offense, as they were able to pick up their 12 runs on five hits and created two errors by the Lady Knights with some hard hit balls.
Sacred Heart began the game with a bang, as lead off batter Blaire Lafleur took a full count pitch and slammed it for a home run, giving the Lady Trojans a quick 1-0 lead.
Starting Sacred Heart pitcher Jodi Vidrine cruised through the first three innings, allowing only one hit and gave up no runs.
Meanwhile, the Lady Trojan bats continued to strike havoc on the Slaughter pitching staff, scoring five more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Olivia Hernandez reached on an error to lead off the inning.
After a fly ball out, and a stolen base by Hernandez, Camille Soileau drew a walk. Hernandez continued to show the wheels, stealing third and then home plate.
Soileau followed on Hernandez’s tail, taking second, third, and home herself on steals. A ground out to second recorded the second out for the Lady Trojans.
Natalie Doucet drew a two-out walk and reached second on a stolen base. Doucet then found third on a passed ball and home plate on a wild pitch to give Sacred Heart a 4-0 lead.
Lafleur and Sydney Soileau each reached base and were brought home on a double by Karli Fontenot to finish the scoring for Sacred Heart in the inning.
In the bottom of the third, the Lady Trojans added to their advantage, picking up two more runs, Emilyse Bergeron drew a lead off walk and moved to third on a double by Camille Soileau.
With two outs, Lafleur and Sydney Soileau both reached on walks, pushing Bergeron across the plate and moving Camille Soileau to third. Soileau then reached home on a stolen base.
The Lady Knights managed to pick up their only run of the game in the top of the fourth. A triple and a single did the damage for Slaughter Charter.
The final runs of the game for the Lady Trojans came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sacred Heart picked up four runs in the at bat with Vidrine doing the biggest damage on a one out double that plated two runs.
Fontenot was hit by A pitch and reached first. Hernandez singled, moving Fontenot to third. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Bergeron scored Fontenot and moved Hernandez to second.
Camille Soileau walked and was followed by Vidrine’s double, scoring Hernandez and Soileau. Vidrine would steal third and score on a sacrifice fly by Lafleur.
Lafleur was 1 for 2 with two RBI, while Vidrine went 1 for 3 with a pair of RBI.
