Lady Trojans roll past Lady Vikings in district contest

OPELOUSAS -- The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans did what they needed to in order to stay in the Division IV top 10 power rating as they rolled past district rival Opelousas Catholic 10-3 Thursday afternoon.
With the win Sacred Heart improves to 9-5 on the season and 3-1 in district play. The Lady Trojans will face False River on the road Tuesday in another league game.
Sacred Heart took control of the game from their first at bat, scoring a single run in the top of the first. Blair Lafleur walked and stole second base.
Lafleur reached third base on a ground ball out. Tobie Landry singled to center field to score Lafleur, handing the Lady Trojans the early lead.
Opelousas Catholic was unsuccessful in their first attempt on offense. The second inning did not fare well for either team, as both the Lady Trojans and the Lady Vikings could not put up any runs.
The big inning at the plate for Sacred Heart came in the top of the third. Lafleur got things going with a lead off double to left center field.
And error put Sydney Soileau at first base and moved Lafleur to third. Landry then smacked a double to left field, scoring Lafleur and pushing Soileau to third base.
Karli Fontenot reached on an error, but could not move Soileau across the plate. With bases loaded, Soileau scored and Landry and Fontenot advanced on defensive interference.
Olivia Hernandez plated Landry on a single, sending Fontenot to third base. After a ground ball out, Bergeron singled home Fontenot to give the Lady Trojans a 5-0 lead.
Opelousas Catholic cut the lead down to four in the bottom of the third, picking up a single run. Two Sacred Heart defensive errors and a base hit led to the Lady Viking score.
The Lady Trojans countered Opelousas Catholic by picking up two more runs in the top of the fourth. Lauren Shipp single to lead off the inning. Shipp moved down to second base on a passed ball.
Lafleur, who went 4 for 4 on the day, singled home Shipp. After stealing second base, Lafleur reached third on a sacrifice fly off of the bat of Soileau. Landry then drove home Lafleur on a single into center field.
After holding Opelousas Catholic scoreless in the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Trojans padded their lead getting another run in the top of the fifth to go up 8-1. The run came when Camille Soileau doubled with one out and then scored on single from Lafleur.
With a seven run advantage heading into the top of the seventh, Sacred Heart put the game away by collecting two final runs. Shipp doubled to open up the at bat. Lafleur followed with a double of her own, allowing Shipp to cross home plate.
Following a fly out to left field, Landry was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. A fielder’s choice off of the bat of Fontenot loaded the bases. Hernandez delivered in big way, singling home both Lafleur and Landry.
The Lady Vikings picked up their final two runs in the bottom half of the inning, but it was too little too late.
Landry went 3 for 4 on the day with three RBI. Hernandez also collected three RBI after going 2 for 5 at the plate.
Camille Fontenot pitched a complete game, surrendering no earned runs on eight hits. Fontenot struck out three and walked two in the win.
