Lady Trojans blow past Lady Gators in district win

FALSE RIVER -- The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans used an eight run third inning to blow past the False River Lady Gators 16-5 in a District 5-1A contest Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, Sacred Heart moves their record to 10-8 on the year and finish league play at 4-1. The Lady Trojans travel to Breaux Bridge on Thursday for a match-up with the Class 4A Lady Tigers.
Neither team could find the plate in the first inning, as both Sacred Heart and False River were blanked in their initial at bats. However, the Lady Trojans found some offense in the top of the second, picking up two runs.
The Lady Gators put up another goose egg in the bottom of the second. Sacred Heart then proceeded to heat up at the plate in the top of the third.
Kali Fontenot walked to lead off and reached third on a double by Camille Soileau. Emilyse Bergeron followed that up by getting hit by the pitch, putting runners at first and second.
Lauren Shipp then doubled to right-center field to score Fontenot and Bergeron. An error by the Lady Gator defense allowed Natalie Doucet to reach first base.
Camille Fontenot walked to load the bases with still no one out. A single off of the bat of Syndney Soileau scored Shipp and pushed everyone else up a base.
A single by Tobie Landry plated Doucet and kept the bases juiced. Olivia Hernandez sent a deep fly ball to center field allowing Fontenot to score on the tag up and moved Soileau to third base.
Landry stole second, giving Sacred Heart runners at second and third. Karli Fontenot walked with one out to load the bases for the Lady Trojans once more.
Camille Soileau belted a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Sydney Soileau. A single by Bergeron put the bases full one last time. Shipp drew a walk to plate Landry and close out the runs for the Lady Trojans.
Sacred Heart added a run in the top of the fourth to go up 11-0. False River drove in two runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead down to nine.
