IOTA -- Despite taking an early lead, the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers were unable to sustain much offense over the final three quarters in a 36-26 loss to the Iota Lady Bulldogs Friday night.
Pine Prairie fell to 15-10 overall and 3-5 in District 5-3A play. The Lady Panthers will travel to Crowley Tuesday for a league contest.
Pine Prairie opened the game by reeling off the first four points. However, Iota muscled their way into the lead with a 7-0 run over the next 1:42 seconds.
The Lady Panthers gathered themselves long enough to regain the lead, 8-7 at the 2:20 mark of the period. The Lady Bulldogs eased their way back, scoring the next three of five points to tie the game at ten when the period ended.
The game remained tight for the first 5:38 seconds of the second quarter as neither team could put up many points. With 2:04 left in the half, Iota knocked down a two-point basket to take a 16-13 lead.
Pine Prairie had a couple of chances at the charity stripe to tie the game up again but failed on both one and one attempts.
The third quarter belonged to the Lady Bulldogs. After two more missed free throws by the Lady Panthers to start the third quarter, Iota went on a eight point run to extend their lead to 11 points, 24-13.
Pine Prairie did manage to cut into the Lady Bulldog lead somewhat, scoring five of the last seven points of the period, including a three-point basket from Kameron Allen, to trail 26-18.
Three straight points from the Lady Panthers to begin the fourth quarter made it a 26-21 game. Nevertheless, Iota spread the floor on offense and found some easy baskets to take a 32-21 lead with 2:18 to go in the contest.
Pine Prairie tried to shoot their way back into the game but could never find the bottom of the net. The Lady Bulldogs continued to apply pressure to the Lady Panthers both offensively and defensively resulting in a stalemate down the stretch and preventing Pine Prairie from getting back into the game.
Allen and Brianna Wall each had eight points to lead the Lady Panthers.
