Lady Demons keep alive in district race

CROWLEY-- The Mamou Lady Demons kept their district title hopes alive Tuesday afternoon when they took down title contender Crowley High 8-1 on the road.
With the win, Mamou improves to 13-6 on the year and 7-2 in league play. The Lady Demons host Eunice today in another key district game. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
Mamou jumped out on top 1-0 in their first at bat of the game. Madison Fontenot reached on an error and moved to third base on another Lady Gent miscue. A sacrifice fly off of the bat of Taylor Douget allowed Fontenot to score the initial run of the contest.
Crowley tied the game up in the bottom of the first with two singles and a stolen base.
The Lady Demons took the lead for good in the top of the second when they added two more runs. Angel Menier singled and stole second. Menier moved to third on another steal after a pop-up to the third baseman recorded the first out.
Sydney Bruney singled home Menier, but was put out on a fielder’s choice by Sophia Fritz. Madi Fontenot doubled, plating Bruney for the second run of the at bat.
A solo home run by Dacia Richard in the top of the third gave Mamou a 4-0 lead. The Lady Demons widened their lead in the fourth inning with a single run.
Teralyn Fontenot doubled and scored on a Bruney single in the top of the fifth to make it a 6-0 lead for Mamou. Douget would push that edge to 7-0 in the top of the sixth when she blasted a solo home run.
Madison Fontenot singled and later scored in the top of the seventh to end the scoring for Mamou.
