Lady Bulldogs ousted from playoffs by Lady Tigers

LIVINGSTON -- The magical season has come to an end for the Ville Platte High Lady Bulldogs.
Ville Platte, probably the youngest team in the playoffs, was hoping they could continue their post-season run and make it to the quarter-finals for the first time in 22 years. Unfortunately, it was not to be as they fell to the defending Class 2A state champions Doyle High School 10-0 Monday afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs finish with an overall record of 10-7 and a third place finish in one of the toughest districts in the state.
Despite the loss, Ville Platte head coach Devinskie Arvie was very upbeat about his team’s performance this past season.
“Our players came out and gave it their all today,” stated Arvie. “They were just a very good team. You can see why they are the defending state champions. Even though we lost today, I feel as if we have won as a program. Now these girls know what it will take to make it to the next step. I am so proud of this team and the way they went about this season. We are very young, so I know this team will be back next year with something to prove.”
Ville Platte started off in great shape. The very first batter of the game, Hanna Monier, drew a lead-off walk and reached second base on a wild pitch. However, the next three batters in the line-up could not produce the hit to plate Monier, leaving the Lady Bulldogs scoreless after one half inning of play.
It did not take Doyle long to put their first points of the game on the board. The Lady Tigers came out of the gates swinging a hot bat and scored three runs in the bottom of the first.
With one out Gabby Lucia singled and stole second base. Sydney Taylor reached on an error, which moved Lucia to third. Madison Daville singled, scoring Lucia. On the throw in, Taylor was put out trying to reach third base.
Elise Jones ripped a triple into deep center field, allowing Daville to come home. Marly Olivier followed with a single to plate Jones. A double by Chloe Welda pushed Olivier to third base. Ville Platte was able to end the inning when Monier induced a ground ball to first baseman McKenzie Walker.
Ville Platte did not have much luck at the plate over the next two innings, getting zero runners on the bags. The Lady Tigers pounced for one more run in the bottom of the second inning.
Doyle tacked on six more runs in the bottom of the third, courtesy of three hits and four errors by the Lady Bulldogs’ defense.
Ville Platte got their second baserunner of the game in the top of the fourth when Kenderlyn Doucet singled with one out. But, once again, the Lady Bulldogs were unable to string together hits to produce a run. That pattern continued in the top of the fifth when
Hailey Bordelon reached first base on a single, only to be left stranded, thus ending the game in a run-rule loss.
“I want to thank all the people that supported us throughout the season,” said Arvie. “We had a lot of people that really gave us encouragement the entire way. I want to especially thank my assistant coaches Jesse Fontenot and Joe Bordelon. Their help was a main reason for our success this year. All I know is that teams better watch out for the Lady Bulldogs in 2020.”
