LAKE ARTHUR -- Heading into their game with the No. 4 ranked Lake Arthur Lady Tigers, the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs knew their task would be tough, especially on the road.
However, Ville Platte did not realize how tough that task would be, as the Lake Arthur handed the Lady Bulldogs a huge 77-35 loss.
With this latest defeat, Ville Platte drops to 8-12 on the year and 2-3 in district play. The Lady Bulldogs will host Kinder Tuesday night.
Despite the final outcome, things did not start out bad for Ville Platte, even with Lake Arthur jumping out to a 12-3 lead half way through the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs were able to right the ship somewhat, scoring nine of the following 10 points to cut the Lady Tiger lead down to four, 13-9, as the period came to an end.
Ville Platte matched Lake Arthur basket for basket in the first 1:38 of the second period to trail 17-13. From that point on, things began to fall apart for the Lady Bulldogs.
A combination of tough Lady Tiger defensive pressure and poor ball control from Ville Platte allowed Lake Arthur to go on an 18-0 run over the next 4:13. The Lady Bulldogs finally stopped the bleeding with exactly two minutes to go in the period.
Never-the-less, that basket did not seem to slow the Lady Tiger momentum down, as they pushed their advantage to 41-15 with one minute to go before halftime. Both teams managed one more bucket before the horn sounded to end the first half, but the damage had been done, as Lake Arthur owned a 26 point advantage heading into the locker room
The beginning of the third quarter saw Ville Platte with some renewed life, as they were able to out score the Lady Tigers 7-4 in the first 1:44 of the period.
But, Lake Arthur ramped up the pressure once again, scoring the final 10 points of the quarter to lead 57-24 going into the final period.
The fourth quarter was basically mop up duty for the Lady Tigers. Each team emptied their benches over the course of the quarter, giving playing time to the younger players.
Trinity Leday led all Lady Bulldogs with 12 points, while Kayden Coward added 11 points.
