ALEXANDRIA – Logan Hebert is a Trojan once again.
The former Sacred Heart High school standout has recently been named the head coach for the Alexandria High Lady Trojan softball team. She replaces Erica Harwell, who stepped down as coach after the 2018 LHSAA state softball tournament.
Hebert, who spent the last two years as an assistant at LSU of Eunice under coach Andy Lee, helped to lead the Bengals to the NJCAA Division II title in 2017. This season, LSUE finished fourth in the tournament after a 7-3 loss to Des Moines Area Community College.
Hebert got her coaching start at LSU of Alexandria, her alma mater, under Harwell in 2015 as the team made it to the NAIA Softball World Series. Prior to coaching, Hebert was a three-year starting pitcher for the Generals after originally signing with Bossier Parish Community College after her career at Sacred Heart. She ranks No. 2 all-time in career wins at LSUA with 49.
“I always find myself back in Alexandria, because my best friends are here,” Hebert said. “A lot of the kids I played with are all here, so I consider it my second home and I think it’s probably the only place that will be considered my second home, so it’s pretty great to be back”
The opportunity to coach an elite program also drew Hebert to taking the job.
Having reached Sulphur in 2014 and 2015, ASH made it three more times under Harwell and won the LHSAA Class 5A title in 2016. The Lady Trojans have also had five players sign with Division I schools .
“What stood out are the kids that come through the program,” Hebert said. “The kids that come through this program are kids that are not necessarily expected to perform well, but they have people here set to help instill the vision for what it takes to be that type of caliber of player. The atmosphere at ASH, since I’ve walked on campus for my interview, has been welcoming. It’s like a family and whenever I was at LSUA, that was our biggest thing. I feel like I’m part of a family and I haven’t really started yet.”
