Ville Platte in must win situation for playoff berth

It all boils down to this.
The Ville Platte High Bulldogs need at least one win in the last two games of the season if they are to have a remote chance of making the Class 2A post-season.
As of Tuesday, Ville Platte was ranked No. 35 in the latest LHSAA power point totals. The Bulldogs must be No. 32 or higher if they wish to continue their season in the first full week of November.
Ville Platte (2-6, 0-3) will get their chance to accomplish that goal this week when they host Ascension Christian (3-4) for homecoming tomorrow night. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
“I really believe if we can get this win, we will be in the playoffs,” stated Ville Platte head coach Jorie Randle. “This is definitely going to be a big game for us. It’s one that I think we can compete in because we are similar teams in terms of depth. Both of us are not as deep as the teams we have played all year long. It would be huge to get this win, especially on homecoming night.”
Last week, the Bulldogs faced one of the toughest teams in the state when they fell to Notre Dame 49-0. Ville Platte has not picked up a win since week four, sputtering on offense the entire time. The Bulldogs have only scored 26 points in that span.
“We know we can’t win if we don’t score points,” said Randle. “We have been off on the timing of our offense lately. We are working hard at practice to get that back. Hopefully, we can get on track tomorrow night.”
This past Friday, Ascension Christian fell to Delcambre 59-16. For the Lions, it has been an up and down season. They were slow out of the gate, losing their first three contests by an average of 18 points per game, before reeling off three wins in a row.
The Lions come into the game putting up big numbers on the offensive side of the ball. For the season, Ascension Christian averages 26.1 points per game.
“They are really improved from last year,”
