YOUNGSVILLE -- Starting on Wednesday the Ville Platte Girl’s Softball Association sent four teams on a quest for a PONY World Series title, as the 6U, 8U, 10U, and 12U All-Stars began the fight to bring home a title.
All four of the organizations clubs started their World Series play with pool games that ran through mid-afternoon on Thursday. Bracket play for three of the four Ville Platte squads began on Thursday evening.
The 6U All-Stars managed to get off to a pretty decent start, collecting two wins in their pool play. Ville Platte lost to Georgetown, Texas 16-14 in the opening game on Wednesday and then turned around and defeated Burleson, Texas 14-13 that same day.
The All-Stars finished pool play on Thursday with a win over Hutto, Texas 17-12. Ville Platte finished out the day on Thursday with a win over Youngsville to advance into the winner’s bracket.
The 8U All-Stars had a rocky start to their World Series experience, going 1-2 in pool play. Ville Platte opened with a tough 4-3 loss to CAYL.
The All-Stars followed that loss up with a 14-1 trouncing of Mission, Texas. Ville Platte ended pool play with a lackluster 16-6 loss to PYBSA. The All-Stars were not scheduled to start bracket play until Friday morning against Kaplan.
The 10U All-Stars mirrored their 6U counterparts in pool play by taking two out of three contests. Ville Platte started off on the right foot by taking a 6-0 win over Western Hills.
The All-Stars’ momentum took a hit in their second pool play game when they lost to McAllen, Texas 8-1. Pool play game number three put Ville Platte back on the correct track as they took down Kaplan 3-0.
In their first bracket game, the 10U All-Stars defeated Mancahaca, Texas 11-7. In that game, Ville Platte and Mancahaca found themselves tied 6-6 heading into the third inning of play.
After holding their opponent scoreless in the top of the fourth, the All-Stars plated a solo run in the bottom half of the inning to go ahead for good. Ville Platte scored three more times in the fifth and once more in the sixth to seal the win.
Things did not go so well for the 12U All-Stars on Wednesday or Thursday’s pool play action. Ville Platte fell to T/C Thunder in game one by the score of 7-6.
The All-Stars stumbled in game two, losing to Youngsville 3-2. Ville Platte then dropped a 7-0 decision to Bishop, Texas. The All-Stars opened up bracket play against Burnett, but as of press time, we did not have that score.
