Despite the disruption caused by Hurricane Barry over this past weekend, the Ville Platte All-Star teams are back on track and ready to resume their trek for national prominence.
For the Dixie Youth Major and Minor All-Stars, Barry’s appearance really threw a wrench into the regional tournament schedule. Originally, the South Regional Tournament was supposed to be played in Morgan City this past Thursday.
But, because of all of the rain that fell on Morgan City, the tournament had to be moved to today and will take place in Ruston. The original schedule remains in tact, however, with the Minor All-Stars taking to the field at 3 p.m. and the Major All-Stars opening play at 5 p.m.
The tournament will run through Sunday with the finals set on that day.
One tournament that Barry did not disrupt is the PONY World Series being held in Youngsville this week. The Ville Platte Girl’s Softball Association will send four teams to the tournament in hopes of coming home with some big time hardware.
Participating in the tournament will be the Ville Platte 6U T-Ball All-Stars, the 8U Coach Pitch All-Stars, the 10U Fast Pitch All-Stars and the 12U Fast Pitch All-Stars.
Pool play actually began yesterday with all four teams playing two pool play games. Pool play continues today with the teams looking ahead to bracket play which begins tomorrow.
The 6U All-Stars opened play against the Pharr, Texas All-Stars at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday and completed the first day of play against the Hutto, Texas All-Stars at 4:45 p.m. They will finish pool play at 11:30 a.m. today against Georgetown, Texas.
The 8U All-Stars had games against CAYL at 8 a.m. and Mission, Texas at 2:15 p.m. yesterday. Their pool play concludes today at 11:45 a.m. against PYBSA.
The 10U All-Stars played their first two pool games yesterday as well. The first pitted them against Western Hills at 2:15 p.m. and the second had them facing McAllen, Texas at 7:15 p.m. Today they play Kaplan at 11:45 a.m.
The 12U team faced T/C Thunder and Youngsville yesterday. The All-Stars take on Bishop, Texas at 9:10 a.m. today.
