KAPLAN-- It was just one week ago that the Ville Platte Girl’s Softball Association 6U T-Ball All-Stars were taking down all comers in a PONY invitational tournament. That tournament allowed Ville Platte to continue their dominance and gave them more confidence heading in the PONY Sectional Tournament this past weekend.
So, loaded with game readiness and lots of high hopes, the All-Stars took down all comers in their path as they took back home a Sectional Championship by staying undefeated on the season.
The weekend started out perfectly for Ville Platte as they eased past Kinder 23-20 in game one of pool play on Friday. Both teams began the game with six runs in the first inning.
In the second inning of play, Kinder outscored the All-Stars 6-5 to take an one run advantage. Ville Platte turned the tables on Kinder in the third inning, out dueling the Allen Parish squad 6-2 to go up 17-14. The final at bat was a wash as both teams picked up six runs.
Friday’s second pool game saw Ville Platte slowly bleed the Deridder offense dry in an 18 to 10 win. The All-Stars allowed six runs in the first but put up that same amount to tie it up heading into the second inning.
Ville Platte out did Deridder 6-4 in the next at bat for both squads. But, it was the third inning that put the game on ice for the All-Stars as they shut out Deridder to get the win.
On Saturday, Ville Platte began bracket play with a 20-15 victory over Youngsville. The two teams exchanged runs in the first three innings of play, as they found themselves all knotted up at 12 apiece.
Ville Platte was one run better in the fourth inning, taking a 4-3 advantage and a single digit lead heading into the fifth inning. It was here that the All-Stars put the game away, as they scored four more runs to keep Youngsville at bay.
Bracket game two on Saturday saw Ville Platte knock down the St. Landry All-Stars 15-10. The big inning for Ville Platte came in the third when the All-Stars blanked St. Landry, not allowing a single run to cross the plate.
Ville Platte took their undefeated record to Sunday’s championship game. The All-Stars did not let up for one minute, as they took down Kinder for a second time in the tournament in a 21-20 win.
Ville Platte will now travel to Eunice this weekend for the PONY Regional Tournament. They will begin pool play tomorrow with a 12 p.m. game against SLYAA.
