VILLE PLATTE -- Coming off of a superb performance in sub-district play, the Ville Platte Dixie Youth 6U T-Ball All-Stars looked to continue their run in the District 7 Tournament held this past weekend.
Despite a rain out day that delayed the championship game until Tuesday afternoon, the All-Stars did not disappoint, winning all but one contest in the tournament to take the title and move on to the state tournament.
Ville Platte will next play in that state tournament to be held in Shreveport beginning July 4. The All-Stars are slated to play there first pool game at 6:15 against the host team.
Ville Platte opened up district play with a forfeit win over Oberlin on Thursday. The All-Stars turned around and defeated Vernon National 28-27 in their second pool game on Friday.
In that contest, Ville Platte trailed 27-23 in bottom of the fifth inning and scored five runs to take the win.
Another one run game awaited the All-Stars in pool play game number three on Saturday. Only this time, Ville Platte was unable to hold off the last inning charge of Deridder, as they fell 27-26 for their first loss of the tournament.
The All-Stars rebounded in a huge way, taking down South Beauregard 17-2 on Saturday in their final pool game of the tourney.
After the last pool game had been played, Ville Platte found themselves in a three-way tie with Deridder and Vernon National to represent the top seed in bracket play. Because of the tie-breaker rule, the All-Stars were seeded third out of their pool and had to take on the No. 1 seed from the opposite pool.
However, that did not deter the young Ville Platte squad, as they took down Pine Prairie 32-26 on Sunday to etch themselves one step closer to the championship. The second bracket game on Sunday was a tad bit easier for the All-Stars as they handled Mamou in a 21-4 win.
The third and final bracket game on Sunday saw Ville Platte completely wear out the ball with their bats as they produced 34 runs in the fifth inning to blast past Vernon National 61-22.
The final two games of the tournament were scheduled for Monday, but rainy weather postponed the chance for a title one more day.
Ville Platte came back on Tuesday with new life and some amazing defense as they delivered a dominating 21-0 win over Dequincy in the winner’s bracket final. That put the All-Stars in the title game against Vernon National. This time Ville Platte made sure, winning 23-11.
