SULPHUR -- The Diamond Divas, a 12U fast pitch travel softball team based out of Ville Platte, completed their spring/summer softball schedule by attending the Jennie Finch World Series here last week.
The Divas started the tournament off on a good note, winning their first two pool games. However, the Divas were not able to finish the tournament strong enough as they dropped their last two pool games and their first bracket game.
“Even though we did not finish the season the way we wanted, I was very proud of the effort of the team this past week,” stated head coach Todd Ardoin. “We have been playing since the fall and only took a few months off before we started this spring. These girls are all 11 and under and are competing against girls older than them. This season was good for them to see some great competition and we look forward to competing again next year.”
The Divas started the tournament with a close 3-1 win over the Buzz. The Divas took an early 3-1 lead after one inning of play and held on the rest of the way for the win.
Game two found the Divas in another nail biter, as they put up the only run of the game in the bottom of the first to take the one run win over the Nightmare Gold. The winning run came when Jodie Landry reached first, stole second and third and then touched home plate on a single by Ava Johnson.
In their third pool game, the Divas were unable to muster any offense at all, as they fell the Louisiana 007’s by the score of 2-0.
The final pool game of the tournament saw the Divas fall quickly as the GT Shockers put up four runs in the first inning for a 4-2 win over the Ville Platte based club.
Bracket play was not kind to the Divas as they were blanked by the Louisiana Shockers 4-0 in the single elimination tournament game.
