Despite early lead, Mamou unable to get past Church Point; Demons fall to 4-5

CHURCH POINT – The Mamou Demons failed to produce any points in the second and third quarters, despite their 7-6 lead after one quarter of play as they fell to the Church Point Bears 41-6 in District 5-3A action.
Mamou dropped to 4-5 on the season and 2-2 in district play. The Demons will host Iota this coming Friday night in the last regular season game of the year.
Church Point got on the board first in the first quarter when tight end Dax Moore took a screen pass for a three-yard touchdown. The extra point was no good, but the Bears had a 6-0 lead with 10:12 to go in the first quarter.
Mamou fought back and took the lead mid-way through the period as Daylon Ardoin sprinted his way into the end zone from 23 yards out. Tanner Atchinson tacked on the extra point putting the Demons on top 7-6 with 3:59 to go in the opening quarter.
The second quarter belonged to Church Point. Early in the period, Gavin Richard made his way in from the 19-yard line. The two-point conversion was good, and the Bears took over the lead, 14-7 with 11:50 to go in the first half.
Church Point extended its lead late in the period with a two yard run by Rodney Dupuis. Chandler Guillory added the extra point and with 29 seconds left in the second quarter, the Bears now owned a 21-7 advantage.
The third quarter was very quiet, as neither team could get points on the board. However, Church Point dominated the fourth quarter, scoring three more times.
The first touchdown came on a 43 yard pass from Moore to Kollin Guillory. The extra point from Chandler Guillory was true giving the Bears a 28-7 lead with just under 11 minutes to go in the game.
Church Point tacked on another touchdown later in the quarter when Jack Robinson picked up a fumble and ran it in from eight yards out. With the extra point from Guillory, the Bears now had a 35-7 lead.
Church Point’s last touchdown of the night came with 6:42 to play, as Richard hit pay dirt on a 10 yard run. The extra point was no good putting the score at 41-7 in favor of the Bears.
Mamou did find the end zone for a second time when Ardoin plunged in from one yard out with 1:15 showing on the clock.
