The Mamou Demons scored twice in the second quarter and only trailed Crowley High by six points at the half, but could not sustain their success, as they fell to the Gents 33-13 here Friday night.
With the loss, Mamou falls to 0-7 on the season and 0-4 in district play. The Demons will travel to Eunice to tangle with the No. 2 ranked Bobcats this Friday night.
The two teams exchanged possessions throughout the first quarter, until Crowley was able to land on the board first with a four yard touchdown run. Adding the extra point, the Gents led 7-0 with 30 seconds to go in the opening period.
Crowley extended their lead to 19-0 in the second quarter, scoring twice on two pass plays, a 22 yard pitch and catch and an 87 yard bomb.
Mamou found some offense later in the second quarter, picking up a two yard rushing touchdown from Dino Deshotel with 6:57 to go in the half. The extra point was no good, cutting the Gent lead down to 19-6.
Not 4:30 seconds later, the Demons found themselves back on the board when Daylon Ardoin found Kyrien Green on a 41 yard touchdown pass. Ted Soileau tacked on the extra point and the Demons found themselves only six points down as they headed into the locker room.
As great as the second quarter was to Mamou, the second half was not as kind. The Demons were unable to punch any more drives into the end zone. However, Crowley was able to add two more scores, one in the third quarter and one in the fourth quarter.
Daylon Ardoin led the way offensively for the Demons, collecting 24 yards on the ground and 63 yards through the air.
