Now that teams have declared their intentions of playing football this fall or not, the College Football Playoff committee has announced its full schedule for the ranking shows and playoff dates.
In terms of ranking shows, the CFP committee has moved the initial show from November 3 to November 17. Following shows will air on November 24, December 1, December 8 and December 15.
The final four pairing will now be announced on December 20 instead of December 6 as was originally planned. The reason for the moves comes down to conferences around the country making their decision to delay, shorten or cancel their seasons.
“With recent schedule changes for the regular season, it makes sense for the committee to make its final rankings after the conference championship games, when it can get a complete picture of the season,” said CFP Executive Director Bill Hancock. “The selection committee members understand the need to be flexible as we all navigate unchartered waters this season, and this move will allow them to evaluate all the available information.
This will be year number seven for the College Football Playoff. The new format replaced the BCS system in 2014. Ohio State took home the first CFP title, while Clemson (2016. 2018) and Alabama (2015, 2017) are the only two teams to win multiple championships under that system.
LSU comes into the 2020 season as the defending National Champs.
The Sugar Bowl and the Rose Bowl will host the semi-finals for the CFP on January 1. The National Championship game is scheduled to be held on January 11 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
