With Ville Platte High’s loss to Brusly in the quarterfinals this past Friday night, the 2019-20 high school basketball season officially came to an end for the four schools in the parish.
Overall, it was a pretty successful season for Evangeline Parish hoop teams. Three of the four girl’s squads were able to make it to the post-season, while two boy’s teams did the same.
Beginning in Class 3A, the Ville Platte Bulldogs, behind a ton of senior leadership, were able to take home the District 5-3A title and make it to the third round of the playoffs.
The Bulldogs, moving up in class this season, sported a final record of 27-10 and had several players make the all-district squad.
First and foremost, senior guard Terrian Roy was named as the District MVP. Roy, who averaged 15 points, three assists, two steals and four rebounds per game, was joined by Tyler Jones (12 points per game) and Ernest Roberts (13 points per game) as first team selections.
Garnering second team spots were Tye’Wuan Byers (11 points per game), while RJ Williams was placed on the All-Defensive team. Honorable Mention selections included Jahmal Byers and Davontae Robert.
Staying in District 5-3A, Mamou High’s Kyrian Green was named to the second team. His teammate, Demarcus Wilson found a spot on the All-Defensive team and Tyrian Broussard fell in as an honorable mention.
Also in District 5-3A, Pine Prairie’s Jason Marsh collected a spot on the All-Defensive team.
In District 5-1A, Sacred Heart’s Tyler Perron garnered All-Defensive team honors for his play on the court this season. Honorable Mention selections for the Trojans included Bryce Deville, Chase Tate and Jacques Leger.
The Basile Bearcats behind their first round playoff game had one player named to second team, that being Isaiah Ceasar. A third team spot went to Keeman Ivory.
On the girl’s side of the court, so to speak, several parish players also claimed their reward for great play this season.
In District 5-3A, the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers received a first team selection in the person of Kameron Allen. The junior scored 15.5 points per game.
Also garnering all-district honors for the Lady Panthers were Brianna Wall, a second team selection and All-Defensive picks Asia George and Maycie Hardy. Aliyah Soileau was named as an honorable mention selection.
The Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs found themselves in the second round of the playoffs which allowed them to show off their talent. That talent produced a second team selection to District 5-3A, Trinity Leday, and two All-Defensive choices, Shayla Hickerson and Alyssa Fontenot.
The Lady Bulldogs also had two honorable mention choices in Vandryua Wilson and Tahjalyn Jack.
Mamou’s Brianna Thibodeaux found a spot as a second team player in District 5-3A, while teammate Markaysha Johnson was placed on the All-Defensive team.
In District 5-1A, senior Blair Lafleur was chosen to represent the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans as a first team selection. Lafleur produced 13.9 points per game. Named to the second team was Olivia Hernandez, while Carley Cloud was selected on the All-Defensive team.
Amanda Bergeron and Anna-Claire Parrott garnered honorable mention status for the Lady Trojans.
The Basile Lady Bearcats landed Lainey Soileau as a second team selection as well as Frida Alvarez on third team. Ryah Ashford was an honorable mention placement for the Lady Bearcats in District 4-1A.
