BASILE -- Racking up 381 yards of total offense, the Basile Bearcats rolled past the Grand Lake Hornets here Friday night for a 41-8 homecoming victory.
With the win, Basile improves to 7-2 on the season and 5-1 in district play. The Bearcats will travel to Lake Charles to take on Hamilton Christian in the final regular season game.
Basile made sure that Grand Lake was not going to spoil their homecoming celebration, as they scored early and often in the first half.
Right out of the chute, the Bearcats put points up on the board when Andre Reed raced 30 yards for the opening touchdown. Abdul Mlingo knocked the extra point through, giving Basile the 7-0 lead.
Later in the quarter, Isaiah Ceasar made his presence known as he scampered his way into the end zone from eight yards out to extend the Bearcat advantage. With the extra point from Mlingo, Basile now held a 14-0 lead.
Heading into the second quarter, the Bearcats looked to add to their two score lead. Quarterback Dawson Ashford found his way over the goal line from two yards out and with the Mlingo extra point, Basile now owned a 21-0 lead.
Midway through the period, Ceasar added to his touchdown total, sprinting his way to pay dirt from 10 yards out. Once again Mlingo was true on the kick and the Bearcats found themselves up 28-0.
Ashford was also not done for the night. Late in the quarter, the senior signal caller busted out for a 30 yard touchdown run, giving Basile a commanding five score lead. The extra point was no good, however the Bearcats were now up 35-0.
Basile finished off the night with another score in the third quarter. This time it was Reed taking the ball in from three yards out. Sophomore kicker Jose Palacios added the point after to make it a 41-0 game.
Grand Lake’s only score came late in the fourth quarter when William Kelly punched it in from three yards out. Kelly then scooted in for the two-point run.
Reed finished the night with 144 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns. Ashford had six carries for 74 yards and two touchdowns. He was also three for eight passing for 47 yards.
