Basile hosts Hamilton Christian in first district game of the year

The Basile Bearcats are coming off one of their worst losses in a long time when they fell to the Sacred Heart Trojans 20-0 this past Friday night.
How bad was it?
For starters, the running game that Basile is known for was only able to muster 25 yards. Add to that the passing game that not only added just 14 yards to the total offense, but also gave up four interceptions.
“It was a dissapointing loss to say the least,” stated Basile head coach Kevin Bertrand. “Not only was I dissapointed in the way we played, but I was dissapointed in myself for not getting them fully ready to play. We are a better team than what we showed. But, we have to have short-term memories and put it behind us.”
Basile must definitely put the game behind them very quickly because the Bearcats now enter their district season when they host the Hamilton Chrisitan Warriors tomorrow night. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Hamilton Christian comes into the contest with an overall record of 2-0, having not played in week one of the season. The Warriors defeated Highland Baptist 20-19 in week two and St. John 34-0 this past Friday night.
According to Bertrand, Hamilton Christian is not only a team to be reckoned with, but is also a team that can beat you if you do not come into the game fully prepared.
“Hamilton Christian has athletes all over the field,” said Bertrand. “They have a number of basketball players out there playing for them and you can tell. They will throw the ball 30 to 40 times a game and challenge you to guard their guys. It is going to be a tough challenge for us, especially our secondary. We are going to have to get pressure up front and hope to cause some errant throws.”
As far as his team is concerned, Bertrand feels the game this past Friday is behind them and the Bearcats will be ready to play.
“This week, we are focusing on every aspect of the game,” commented Bertrand. “We are taking small steps at a time, but I have a feeling that we will be ready to go.”
