What started as a close game after one inning of play, turned into a resounding 8-2 Aces win over the Dots in Dixie Youth Baseball 10U action Wednesday afternoon.
It looked as if the Dots were going to be the team to beat, as they produced two runs in the top of the first inning. Triston Fontenot reached second base on an error to lead off the inning.
Following a strikeout, Luke Vidrine singled home Fontenot for the initial run of the game. A strikeout later and Jackson Fontenot doubled Vidrine to the plate, giving the Dots the early lead.
The Aces countered the Dots with a single run in the bottom half of the inning. Brayden Ortego drew the lead off walk, stole second base and reached third on an error by the Dot defense.
With one out, Payton Veillon lifted a fly ball deep enough into the outfield to allow Ortego to tag up and score.
After Aces’ starting pitcher Brecken Figueriedo struck out the side in the top of the second, the Aces tied the game up in the bottom half of the inning.
With one out, Will Blanchard drew a walk and stole second base. Following another strikeout, Blanchard came home to scored on a single off of the bat of Reece Fontenot.
The Dots could not answer in the top of the third inning, as each batter that came to the plate was sent back to the dugout on a strikeout. The bottom half of the third saw the Aces explode for five of their eight total runs, making it a 7-2 game.
The Aces’ final run came in the bottom of the fourth. Parker Daire drew a walk to lead things off. Two wild pitches later, Daire was sitting at third base.
Ortego, Veillon and Figuereido also drew walks, pushing Daire across the plate for the Aces’ eighth run.
