VILLE PLATTE -- On Wednesday night, the parish gridiron coaches held their annual Parish Jamboree planning meeting to sure up details for this year’s event.
One of the surprising twists in this year’s jamboree is the Sacred Heart Trojans will be rejoining the other parish squads on August 24 as a participant. It will be the first time in four seasons that the Trojans take part in the parish contests.
“It was time for us to get back into the jamboree,” stated Sacred Heart head coach Josh Harper. “I think it is a great way to have all of the parish teams in one place to showcase our teams to the fans around the area.”
Other parish coaches were also excited to see the Trojans back in the mix for 2018.
“It is always good when you can have all of the parish teams come together, whether it be in football or any other sport,” said Basile head coach Kevin Bertrand. “It brings the fans from every part of the parish together, and it gives the coaches a chance to see teams we would not see during the season.”
Ville Platte High head coach Jorie Randle was also on board in seeing Sacred Heart come back into the fold.
“Sacred Heart has had a very good team over the last couple of years,” commented Randle. “For them to be back in the jamboree allows all of the team’s in the parish to play in a tremendously competitive environment before the first regular season game. Whoever they play will provide a good test.”
Ville Platte High will host this year’s jamboree. The event will take place on August 24 and the first games will start at 6 p.m.
Three teams, Basile, Sacred Heart and Pine Prairie, will play a round robin format with the Bearcats and Trojans tangling in the very first match-up.
Following that game, Basile will face off against Pine Prairie and then Sacred Heart will take on the Panthers approximately 15 minutes later.
All of those games will consist of one 15 minute quarter, so that each of the clubs plays 30 minutes total.
The night cap will see Ville Platte and Mamou go head to head for two 15 minute quarters.
Cost for the varsity jamboree will be $7 per person.
The junior varsity jamboree will be held on Thursday August 23 at Pine Prairie High School beginning at 6 p.m. All five schools in the parish will also participate.
