The 40th annual Boggy Bayou Pageant was held Saturday, March 15, at the Sherman Place Event Venue. Winners and runners-up were announced as follows:
Junior Miss: Layla Mulligan, the 13-year-old daughter of Russell and Kayla McElfresh of Lake Charles, was chosen as Junior Miss Boggy Bayou. Rounding out her court were Bristol Presley, the 13-year-old daughter of Russell and Melissa Presley of DeRidder, first alternate; and Emma Andrus, the 12-year-old daughter of Troy and Annette Andrus of Ville Platte, second alternate.
Teen Miss: Avery Brown, the 14-year-old daughter of Michael and Hope Brown of Eunice, was selected as Teen Miss Boggy Bayou title. She is a 4.0 honor student at Eunice High School where she also serves on the student council. She enjoys playing volleyball and softball. She pitches on her travel ball team and will play school softball next school year. She is an active member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Brown’s hobbies include spending time with her family and friends, reading, baking and shopping. She also loves to travel and has been to 20 different states to date.
Also serving as members of the Teen Miss Boggy Bayou court were Cheyenne Messer, the 15-year-old daughter of Angela Deshotel of Ville Platte, first alternate; and Maddy Thomas, the 15-year-old daughter of William and Brandy Thomas of Reeves, second alternate.
Miss: Hannah Claire Ivey, the 18-year-old daughter of Brian and Tiffany Ivey of Ragley, was crowned Miss Boggy Bayou. She is a senior at South Beauregard High School, where she is an honor student and a member of the marching band, SBHS drum captain, Interact Club social media officer, and National Honor Society. She has been a recipient of the UCA Pin It Forward Award and was chosen as a McNeese All-State Band musician. Her hobbies include spending quality time with her family, marching band, cooking and trying new recipes. She enjoys sharing her love of drumming with younger kids.
Of being crowned Boggy Bayou Queen, Ivey says, “As the caretaker for my 60-year-old grandmother, I have seen first hand the importance of providing love and support for our elders. I’m excited to share my experiences, ideas and the lessons I have learned with Prairie Manor Nursing Home and the Boggy Bayou Festival to make an even greater impact.”
Rounding out the new queen’s court were Jaden Bamburg, the 19-year-old daughter of Amy Hammatt and J.R. Bamburg of Oakdale, first alternate; and Taylyn Lacombe, the 17-year-old daughter of Dondi and Rebecca Lacombe of Marksville, second alternate.
Ms.: Chasity Monier of Mamou captured the Ms. Boggy Bayou title. She is a proud advocate for raising awareness of the dangers of texting and driving. She also strongly advocates for raising awareness for Traumatic Brain Injury patients and those who have lost their lives to TBI, as well as their families.
Runners-up to the new Ms. Queen were Danielle Moreau of Pine Prairie, first alternate; and Kelly Strozier of Bentley, second alternate.
