Parish teams take part in the Basile hoops tourney

BASILE -- Three of the five parish teams, along with Bunkie and Vinton, gathered here this past week to take part in the Basile Invitational Tournament.
The tourney, which began on Wednesday with four games, was set to be completed on Friday night. As always, when teams from the parish are involved, you know the action was fast and furious.
Here is a rundown of the games played on Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday’s Action

Basile (G) vs.
Pine Prairie
In one of the most competitive games of the first two days, the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers had to overcome a slow start in the first half to slip past the Basile Lady Bearcats 51-48.
Basile jumped out to a 10-9 lead after one quarter of play and led Pine Prairie 22-16 as the teams retreated to the locker room for halftime.
In the third quarter, the Lady Panthers got their offense going enough to earn a four point lead, 35-31, heading into the final period.
The two teams continued to match each other shot for shot, with Pine Prairie keeping Basile at a short arm’s length the entire fourth quarter to seal the win.
Brashaylan Doucet scored 21 points to lead the Lady Panthers. Lainey Soileau notched 18 points, while Frida Alvarez hit on 14 points for Basile.

Basile (B) vs.
Pine Prairie
A 12-11 Basile lead after one quarter of play turned into a run away contest in the second half, as the Bearcats blew past the Pine Prairie Panthers 83-57.
Basile only led 30-25 at the half, but poured in 25 points in the third quarter and 28 points in the final period to pull past the Panthers.
Three Bearcat players were able to collect 20 points or more with Isaiah Ceasar knocking down 27 points, Keeman Ivory hitting 20 points and Jamal Ceasar also chipping in 20 points.

Mamou (G) vs. Bunkie
Brianna Thibodeaux netted 14 points and Dacia Richard added 13 points as the Mamou Lady Demons eased past the Bunkie Lady Panthers 54-51.

Mamou (B) vs. Bunkie
Points came few and far between for the Mamou Demons as they fell to the Bunkie Panthers 45-33.
Mamou actually led 18-17 at the half, but Bunkie outscored the Demons 12-3 in the third quarter and 16-12 in the final period.

Thursday’s Action

Bunkie (G) vs.
Pine Prairie
Behind a combined 15 points from Kameron Allen and Brashaylan Doucet in the opening period, Pine Prairie shot out to a 20-2 lead and cruised past Bunkie 53-25 for their second win of the tournament.
The Lady Panthers held Bunkie to single digits in all but one quarter of play. Doucet picked up 17 total points to lead Pine Prairie in the game.

Bunkie (B) vs.
Pine Prairie
Just as in their first contest of the tournament, the Pine Prairie Panthers were tied up after one quarter of play. However, Bunkie found their stride in the second half, running past the Panthers 61-33.

Mamou (G) vs. Vinton
Markaysha Johnson lit up the nets for a trio of three-pointers in the first quarter to help the Mamou Lady Demons power past the Vinton Lady Lions 51-39.
Mamou led 13-10 when the first period buzzer sounded, but really put the game away when they outpaced Vinton 17-9 in the second quarter.

Basile (B) vs. Vinton
Vinton opened up a 22-8 lead in the first quarter and put the ship on cruise the rest of the way as they sailed past Basile 77-28.
Basile’s Keeman Ivory tried to keep the Bearcats in the game, scoring eight of his game high 12 points in the second period..
