Sacred Heart blasts their way past Mamou Monday

VILLE PLATTE -- The Sacred Heart Trojans feasted on the pitching of the Mamou Demons, blasting four dingers, including two from Christian Duplechin, for a 15-5 non-district win Monday afternoon.
With the win, Sacred Heart improves to 10-10-1 on the season. The Trojans were scheduled to play False River on the road Tuesday in their opening district game of the year. Sacred Heart hosts Catholic of Pointe Coupee today. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
Mamou drops to 6-12 on the year with the loss. The Demons were scheduled to play Crowley Tuesday and Oakdale Wednesday at home. Mamou travels to Crowley today. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
Despite the loss, the Demons took the early lead in the game. Mamou produced a single run in the top of the first when Landon Deshotels doubled with one out, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a ground out to first base.
The Trojans tied the game up in the bottom half of the inning. Garrett Fontenot drew a lead off walk and moved all the way to third on two passed balls.
Josh Haper walked to put runners at first and third. Gabe Fontenot reached first on a hit by pitch to load the bases.
A screeching line drive off of the bat of Duplechin was snagged out of the air by Demon third baseman Tanner Atchinson, who casually walked over to third and doubled up Garrett Fontenot who was taking off on the hit.
Alec Gotro then singled home Harper to put Sacred Heart on the board for the first time.
Mamou landed three runs in the top of the second with two hits, three walks and one error. Zach Morein and Andre Tate both singled to start the inning off for the Demons.
Morein was caught stealing third base for the first out. Connor Vasseur was hit by a pitch and Wesley Marcantel walked to load the bases.
Kayden Serie reached first on a hit by pitch, scoring Tate and moving all runners up a base. Following a strike out, Daylon Ardoin hit a ball at third base that was thrown away, plating Vasseur and Marcantel.
Sacred Heart cut the lead back down to one with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second. A walk issued to Cannon Beaver and a passed ball on strike three with Cade Manuel at the plate put runners at first and second with no outs.
Garrett Fontenot then doubled to center field to knock in both Beaver and Manuel, making it a 4-3 game.
After holding the Demons scoreless in the top of the third inning, the Trojans opened the game up, pounding the baseball for two more hits and four more runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Gotro reached first on an error, stole second base and made it safely to third on a base hit by Drew Bordelon. Another Demon defensive error with Connor Bordelon at the plate pushed Gotro home and put Drew Bordelon at third base.
Connor Bordelon stole second base. Following a strike out, Manuel drew a one out walk to load the bases. A fielder’s choice off of the bat of Garrett Fontenot got Manuel out
