New parish jail nears completion

By: TONY MARKS Editor VILLE PLATTE - The new parish jail, located in the Industrial Park, is nearing completion, according to reports. The multi-million dollar facility will house 200 inmates and will have separate wings for female prisoners and for maximum-security prisoners.

Le Roi et La Reine are crowned during pageant

By: HEATHER BOGARD Associate Editor During Cotton Festival Pageant activities on Saturday, September 20, James Bordelon was crowned as Le Roi and Susan Graser was crowned as La Reine. Both will represent Heritage Manor and the Cotton Festival during festival events in October.

NATCHITOCHES - Northwestern State University has named 22 students to its 2025 Homecoming Honor Court. Members of the court were selected by a vote of the student body. The court will be presented at halftime of the Homecoming football game against East Texas A&M on Saturday, Oct. 4.

Former fire chaplain passes away

By: TONY MARKS Editor EUNICE - Reverend Thomas Montelaro, former associate pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte and former chaplain of the Ville Platte Fire Department, passed away on August 29, in Las Vegas, Nev., at the age of 78.
