VILLE PLATTE - Funeral services for Kayla Sue Manuel, 71, will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2021, in the LaVille Funeral Home Chapel. Kayla, a native of Pine Prairie, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021, in Vidor, Texas. Burial is to follow in the Fontenot Cemetery.

The Acosta Foundation and the Ville Platte Police Department Cops For a Cure team recently their 5th annual Jail and Bail event. “Bail” was set at $100 with a contest to see who could raise the most! Our participants helped us raise approximately $3,500 for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

High voltage anxieties

Frustrated over soaring electricity rates, several Ville Platte residents took the streets to protest outside the Cleco office in Ville Platte on Wednesday, September 29. One of the organizers, Arthur Sampson, questioned the city’s contract with the electricity provider.

Tri-Parish jobless rates down; workforce decreases

The Tri-Parish workforce in August was 66,994, down 2.8% or 1,903 from a year ago. August jobless rates in St. Landry, Acadia and Evangeline parishes are down compared to a year ago, according to statistics released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

During a cocktail reception held Tuesday, September 29, at The Hatchery in Vidrine, Connie Acosta Lamke, of The Acosta Foundation, was presented with the 2021 Leaders in Philanthropy Award for Evangeline Parish.

Marilyn Reed Ardoin, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Breaux Bridge on September 25, 2021. A private family remembrance will be held at a later date. Known to many as “Molin,” she was the daughter of Simpson and Ada Reed of Mamou.
