Among the 400 people who voted for the parish wide one mill Health Center tax at the Courthouse poll Tuesday was Earl Fontenot, Jr., seen casting his ballot while election officials Marcellus Thompson, Edgar Buller, Gene Buller, and Mrs. Joffre Fusilier check the registration rolls. The popular vote at the Courthouse was 400 to 8; the assessed valuation $684,837 to $130,790. The tax was badly beaten in Mamou, Chataignier and L’Anse Maigre. It failed to carry in assessed valuation at Point Blue, Dolsy Deville and Beaver. No votes were cast against it at Turkey Creek and Upper Pine Prairie. Passage of the tax will bring to this parish adequate Public Health services for the next ten years. (Johnnie Quinn photo)
