VILLE PLATTE - Funeral services for James Vernon “Vern” Lafleur were held on Monday, October 16, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte. It was followed by a burial at Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery.

Loretta V. Perron, of Opelousas, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, at the age of 76. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. A viewing was held on Wednesday, October 18, at 8:30 a.m. Melancon Funeral Home of Opelousas was in charge of arrangements.

EPSO Arrests

The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the following recent bookings into the parish jail. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Minors are arrested in Mamou

On October 15, 2023, starting just after midnight the Mamou Police Department received multiple calls from private citizens and businesses about damage to property along the north side of the town. The complaints involved tire slashing and broken car windows.

Parish burn ban is lifted

****EVANGELINE PARISH***** As of Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 11:43, Police Jury President Bryan Vidrine has lifted the burn ban for Evangeline Parish. He has discussed this matter with several fire chiefs, and if the situation gets out of hand, he will reinstate the ban. Please be safe.

Motorcyclist Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash in Evangeline Parish

Evangeline Parish – At approximately 11:45 p.m. on October 17, 2023, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I were notified of a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Louisiana Highway 104 west of Lanse De Deshotel Rd. The crash took the life of 64-year-old Russell John Armond, Sr.
