Funeral services for Stephen Hallam were held at 12 noon on Thursday, November 16, 2023 in the chapel of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie with Kevin Smith officiating. Mr. Hallam, age 74, of Ville Platte, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at St. Joseph Hospice in Lafayette.

Former city prosecutor passes away at 77

By: TONY MARKS Editor Former city prosecutor for Ville Platte Guy O. “Mitch” Mitchell passed away on Friday, November 10, at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. He was 77 years old. In addition to serving as city prosecutor, Mitchell previously served on the Indigent Defendant Board.

City applies for EPA grant

By: NANCY DUPLECHAIN Staff Reporter During the November 14 meeting of the Ville Platte City Council, Mayor Ryan LeDay Williams announced the city applied for a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency.

MPD looks for inmate

By: TONY MARKS Editor An inmate, identified as Dorian Thomas, escaped from the Mamou Jail on the morning of Tuesday, November 14. Thomas is a Black male who is 5’5” and weighs 145 pounds. He has brown eyes, black hair, and multiple tattoos. He is also considered armed and dangerous.

School district scores a B in performance
