City adopts budget for new fiscal year

By: TONY MARKS Editor The Ville Platte City Council adopted its budget for the new fiscal year during a special meeting held Thursday, July 25. During the meeting, the council rejected Chief Al Perry Thomas’ proposed police budget. Under the chief’s proposal, he would receive a salary of $83,955.

BATON ROUGE - The Louisiana Press Association announced the winners of the 2023 Better Newspaper Competition on July 19 at the Baton Rouge City Club. Among those receiving top awards were both publications in Evangeline Parish- the Ville Platte Gazette and The Basile Weekly.

Local businessman passes away

Longtime owner of T&J Ford, Terryl Fontenot, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, at the age of 74. Fontenot became employed at Jim Ardoin Used Cars in 1972. After 17 years, he realized it was time to reopen the Ford and Mercury franchise in Ville Platte.

Updated solar ordinance goes to police jury

By: TONY MARKS Editor The parish’s updated solar ordinance picked up steam as the Solar Ordinance Advisory Board adopted new language during a meeting held Monday, July 22. The updated ordinance now goes to the Evangeline Parish Police Jury for adoption at a later date.
