State help is sought for VP crime

VILLE PLATTE – In response to the alarming rise in crime in Ville Platte, Senator Heather Cloud and Representative Rhonda Butler have stepped up their efforts to bring about meaningful solutions for the safety and security of the community.

Burn ban is in effect

As a result of current dry weather conditions, Evangeline Parish Police Jury President Bryan Vidrine has issued a parish wide ban on all private burnings in the parish, including all municipalities. The ban includes anything with an open flame that produces an ember.

Mamou resident is victim of murder/ suicide

Deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office continue their investigation into a Saturday evening shooting, which left two people dead. Deputies were dispatched just after 7 p.m., on October 12, to La. Highway 367 (White Oak Highway).

EPSO Arrests

The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the following recent bookings into the parish jail. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Evangeline Parish reg. of voters is arrested in Avoyelles Parish

Evangeline Parish Registrar of Voters Ashton Lucas Buller was arrested in Avoyelles Parish, on Saturday, October 12, for charges of DWI and possession of schedule II CDS. Avoyelles Parish District Attorney Charles Riddle confirmed the arrest and the charges on Monday, October 14.

Teachers of the year are announced

Dedication, passion, knowledge, and a spark of creativity were on full display on Friday, October 4, as the Evangeline Parish School District (EPSD) interviewed its 2025 Teacher of the Year (TOY) honorees.

Charles is arrested for second degree murder

On September 14, the Ville Platte Police Department was conducting an investigation in reference to a homicide that occurred on Reed Street, inside the corporate limits of Ville Platte, where a female victim was fatally wounded by gunfire.
